OUR DOG BUDDY WRESTLES AND PLAYS WITH OUR BABY WHITE TAIL DEER
My brother found this deer alone and malnourished when it was a tiny baby. My family bottle fed the baby, named Theen until he was eating grass. Several months later he’s very socialized with people, our black lab, and our cats. He is free to wander if he likes and we’ve seen him with several herds of whitetail and axis deer. Apparently he fits in just fine with them. He frequently comes back to the house to eat some catfood and play with our dog, Buddy. He doesn’t care much for deer corn.

I also should add: All of the deer attacks on employees (goring with antlers, striking with front hooves) we had at this zoo were from hand-raised babies after they grew into three-year old bucks with no fear of people. They are dangerous animals to have around.

Unless this fawn truly was abandoned,I really need to put in:I raised many a baby deer at a zoo where I once worked. Well-meaning people were always bringing us fawns, saying they found them abandoned. What we can’t seem to get through to people is that mother deer do leave their fawns alone for short periods of time–that’ s why fawns are camouflaged the way they are, and why they will lie motionless in the grass or leaves.The mother, most of the time, comes back and finds her baby gone.
